This policy explains what information Docula may collect, how it is used, and the choices available to people who use our study and document tools.
Information we collect
Docula may receive information you provide directly, including account details, submitted text, uploaded files, feedback, and an email address if you join the Docula mailing list. We may also receive technical information such as browser type, device type, approximate location, pages visited, and interactions with the service.
Authentication and account information
Docula supports user accounts through Clerk. You may sign in with an email address and password or through Google. Clerk may provide Docula with basic account information such as your name, email address, profile image, account identifier, authentication method, and session information. Clerk processes authentication data under its own privacy terms.
Submitted content and generated outputs
PDFs, images, transcripts, notes, source details, study goals, and other content you submit are processed to perform the tool action you request. This may include text extraction, OCR, citation formatting, or AI generation of notes, flashcards, quizzes, study plans, and AI Study Coach plans. If you select saved outputs for Study Coach, only those selected outputs are used as context. Do not submit sensitive personal, medical, legal, financial, confidential, private, or restricted material.
How information is used
Information may be used to provide and secure Docula, authenticate users, process tool requests, answer questions grounded in extracted PDF text, save outputs a signed-in user explicitly chooses to keep, organize those outputs into private study sessions, respond to feedback, diagnose errors, understand product usage, prevent abuse, communicate requested updates, and improve the service.
Analytics and search performance
Docula may use Google Analytics to understand traffic and product usage, Microsoft Clarity to understand interactions and diagnose usability issues, and Google Search Console to review search performance. These services may process device, browser, interaction, referral, and approximate location information according to their own privacy policies and settings.
Cookies and browser storage
Docula and its service providers may use cookies and similar browser technologies to maintain authentication sessions, remember preferences, measure usage, support temporary workflow handoffs, and protect the service. You can control cookies and clear local or session storage through your browser, although some account and tool features may stop working correctly.
Third-party service providers
Docula relies on service providers to operate the product, including Clerk for authentication, Google for sign-in and analytics services, Microsoft Clarity for usage insights, hosting and infrastructure providers, AI providers for selected generation tools, and an email service for mailing-list subscriptions. These providers may process information only as needed to deliver their services and under their own terms.
Security and retention
Docula uses reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect information, but no online service can guarantee complete security. Uploaded files, including PDFs used with PDF Chat, are processed temporarily and are not intentionally stored after processing. Generated text is stored only when a signed-in user explicitly saves it. Signed-in users may also save AI Study Coach plans and associate them with study sessions. Saved outputs, Study Coach plans, and study sessions remain available until the user deletes them or the service is required to remove them. Service providers may retain limited information according to their operational, security, and legal requirements.
Your choices and rights
You may review or update available account information through Clerk-powered account controls, unsubscribe from Docula emails using the link in an email, and manage cookies through your browser. Depending on your location, you may also have rights to request access, correction, or deletion of certain personal information.
